Healthy Drinking: It's A Balance

General rules:
1.    Straight liquor only!! Reduces the amount of calories and sugars.

2.    If you must mix, either cranberry juice (great at preventing UTIs and keeping the urinary tract nice and healthy) or tonic water (no added calories – yay!!!)

3.    I stick to white liquor over brown as it usually has less calories (about 10 calories less/drink).

4.    My go-to drink is flavored vodka on the rocks preferably Coconut Ciroc.  In the winter or when I feel a cold coming on I am a hot liquor drinker – so hot toddy’s sans the honey.

Basically hot water, alcohol (brown or white), with lemon.  If you need a to add a sweetener, stick with honey.  If you need more flavor, make it with a tea bag.

5.    Sometimes I will indulge with Patron CafĂ© or a Bailey’s but that is definitely a desert drink.  Treat yourself to it instead of to a sugary juice or desert.

6.    You must keep hydrated! Hot Toddy’s work best at doing this but if you’re not drinking a hot toddy, you must have at least one glass of water/drink.  Water, of course, is the best thing we put in our bodies all day, and it helps cut back on the calories we imbibe when drinking.  Drink plenty of it when imbibing and throughout the day!!!  If you don’t like plain water (I absolutely think it’s disgusting), add citrus (lemon, lime, orange) or cucumber.  Tea works as well.  Don’t add sugar!!! Use honey or Agave.  RAW Brown sugar if necessary.

7.    Alcohol is your cheat treat!!!  You can’t decide to have desert, bread and alcohol.   That is a NO!!!!!!!!

8.    Everything you put in your body should be as clean as possible so as to counterbalance the negative effects alcohol can have on your body and to not be counterproductive to your workouts and clean eating.

9.    Also, I only drink one – two glasses/week of wine.  While it definitely has medicinal properties, wine also has a super amount of calories, at least twice as much as regular spirits.  Sake is a better choice.
